As most of you know, I take care of a woman who is 109 years old. She was pretty mobile, but recently she has become less mobile and has needed a lot of extra care. I late November her son had a medical emergency and was admitted to the hospital, and between myself and another person we were providing around the clock care for Nannie. In fact, the first day, I was working for 27 straight hours! Most of the time it was 12 hour days everyday for about 3 weeks. The decision was made that she was going to be placed in a Nursing home, but she never made it and died on the 18th of December. 109 YEARS OLD! Can you believe that!?
Before Christmas break, we had a bit of a rough patch. KK's throat started hurting (and he never complains about things like that!) and I called his school to tell them he was sick and took him to the doctor where he was diagnosed with Strep Throat and had to miss the next day of school, which he was upset about, but he needed time for the antibiotics to kick in.
The same day that I took KK to the doctor, after dinner my stomach hurt...I thought that I ate too much, and I went to take a bath. I couldn't even get through the bath and I started throwing up. I threw up about 10 different times that night. I was sooo dehydrated and sick. I couldn't even sip on water I would puke it back up, so I had to sip on ice cubes. Mr H was so worried that he wanted to take me to the hospital...I knew all they would do is hook me up to an IV and push fluids. I thought I would wait it out. I don't think it helped that I was STILL nursing ET even though I was so sick! Mr H tried to take care of ET, but he wasn't having it. Mr H was up until almost 4am with him crying and screaming and only sleeping for 20 mins at a time. I could tell Mr H was running thin so I took him and let him nurse and he was out for the rest of the night. I was worried that I was going to get him sick, but prayed that he would be alright. I was sick for about 5 days...I couldn't eat solids. I tried once and I started puking again, it was TERRIBLE.
While I was trying to recover from being sick, I had noticed that ET was having trouble breathing and would wheeze at night. He was very fussy during the day and it was very hard to handle when I was still feeling sooo sick. So on Monday I took him to the doctor and he was tested for strep and RSV. Strep was negative, but the RSV came back positive. I panicked a little bit because all RSV babies that I have known they all have ended up in the hospital so I was worried. I tried my hardest to make him comfortable during bedtime, propping him up on pillows, nursing him, holding him, rocking him, etc. Eventually his wheezing concerned me and I took him back to the doctor and asked for a breathing treatment, which didn't really help, but I was told from the doctor that for an RSV baby he looked REALLY good and that I'm lucky that he's such a big baby, but it still didn't make me feel any better!
By Christmas we were all better, but for a couple weeks it was rough in our household. I do want to give a little shout out to the wonderful friends I have...I was brought meals for 4 days so that I didn't have to worry about cooking! I'm so grateful that I have close friends who love me enough to serve me when I needed it...and my family needed it too, cause we all know Mr H. would've made mac n cheese.

Our Trip to Michigan
In October, we took a small trip up to my stomping grounds in Michigan with the plane. It was a blast to see old friends and visit places I hadn't been to for 20+ years. A lot has changed in Battle Creek and driving down the street, I would spark a memory that I had forgotten. It was a trip that I really needed just to just get away.
Once we hopped off the plane, got our rental car, ate some food, and checked into the hotel, we made our way to Binder Park Zoo for their annual "ZooBoo". We were meeting a few people there...8 to be exact! I can't remember the last time I went to the ZooBoo, but it sure has changed...and sadly, it's changed for the worse. I was very disappointed in it, but we still had a great time.

On the Road to Recovery
When I was pregnant with ET, I felt overwhelmed like a lot of new moms, what to pack for the hospital, what's the birth plan, another c-section or VBAC, how was the birth going to go, recovery? Tons of questions and some wouldn't be answered until the baby was delivered. There was a lot of reading and a lot of talking to others. I don't think it helped my anxiety reading about other peoples horror stories about birth and recovery, I even had my very own Horror Story. And every single person's experience is different, it was hard to get an idea of what I should expect. Therefore, I didn't know what to expect when I did give birth.
I knew that I wanted to try for a VBAC, I did NOT want another c-section. That was too difficult for me to recover from, granted, a normal (non-critical emergency) c-section may be an easier recovery than I had, as well as taking time to heal (I went back to work one week after having KK!). I knew the only reason for a c-section for baby #2 was if there was no other choice (for the baby's safety, my safety, etc).
I knew that I wanted to try a natural birth. I didn't know if I would be able to last very long but I wanted to see how far I could go before asking for an epidural, because in my birth plan, I didn't want anyone to suggest drugs to me. I wanted to ask for them when it became unbearable. I was afraid that if someone suggested something that I would cave in and I didn't want to cave, until I just couldn't take it anymore.
I also knew that I wanted to have a birth coach with me, to help me focus my energy and to remind me to relax and breath. This was Mr H.'s first birth experience and he had no idea what he was getting himself into. I wanted to have someone forcing me to stay on task and she was able to. I also needed someone who was going to be my advocate and she was able to do that too.
Once I had ET, I felt great. I didn't know a person could feel that good after having a baby. I seriously wanted to do it again! That's crazy talk, but I really wanted to give birth again! I must have had special hormones running through me, but I told Mr H. that I couldn't wait to get pregnant and have another baby! I NEVER felt like that after KK. It was such a high! And because of the epidural, I didn't quite feel the pain. And even once the epidural faded, the pain was tolerable as long as I took my medication, although, a couple times I had to ask for vicodin because the motrin wasn't strong enough.
Going to the bathroom (#1) was alright for the most part as long as I had that warm water spray bottle to spray on myself. Showers helped too. I never used the sitz bath or the tucks pads but brought both of them home. Showers were great, being able to get clean made me feel like another woman and the warm water helped with the pain. Most of the pain came from ripping, I was so swollen...but that's what happens! The whole time, I kept thinking, that this recovery was WAY better than a c-section! After having a VBAC, I could never chose a c-section.
While at home, recovery continued and was tolerable as long as I took my medication. Even when ET ate, I couldn't feel my uterus contracting. I still continued to use the warm water spray when using the bathroom. And finally when I went #2, it was scary but wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
This recovery has been better than I could have hoped for. I've been able to move around, get up and down, walk KK to the school bus, do a bit of housework, bend over, etc. I feel like I can do anything...although, Mr H. won't let me. He makes me sit down and rest, he knows that I will push myself too much. He's been taking great care of me. I'm lucky to have him.
Today, at 16 days post delivery, I feel probably about 90% recovered. I haven't taken any medication in 3 days, the swelling is down, the bathroom trips aren't scary anymore, I'm able to carry the carseat without difficulties, and I'm getting out and about a lot. I've also lost 21 pounds so far! I am grateful for this speedy recovery. I know that my experience with recovery is NOT what all woman go through but I'm hoping that this is typical for me, for the sake of the next child and the next.

Goodbye 20's Hello 30's!
This was a special birthday for me this year, not only did I turn 30, but I was able to celebrate it with such wonderful friends who made me feel extra loved. I have never been one to be very social or plan get-togethers but I am so lucky that I have friends who know how to bring me out of my shell. I should mention, not only do my friends help me, but my husband has been instrumental in this as well. He helped a couple of my friends surprise me with a "Welcome to the 30's" dinner/pedicure date on the 29th of July. I thought Mr H. was taking me somewhere, but he arraigned to watch not only KK, but 3 other boys so this could happen!
I was surprised when Adrienne came to pick me up! I had NO IDEA what we were about to do, Mr H. was so sneaky and quiet about this surprise. We picked up another friend and headed to our local outdoor mall. There was a concert going on and people all over the place, it was pretty packed but we ended up going to Brio for dinner and I had the Pasta Alla Vodka and it was THE BEST thing I have ever tried there. Not only was the food good, but the conversation was great! I love those 2 girls!
After dinner they treated me to a much needed pedicure! I was very entertained with the guys who were doing our pedis. They were really funny. Telling all sorts of jokes and singing. They were crazy...
And my feet really loved the massage. They are so swollen and achy with this pregnancy. The baby loved it when I got this done too because s/he was bouncing all around and going crazy. I think I might have to get another one of these done before the baby arrives. And after our pedis, we went back home. I had such a fun time with my friends and it was definitely an awesome welcome to the 30's
Mr H. wanted to do something special for my 30th birthday so he called Adrienne (yes the same one that took me out earlier) about a month ago and asked her for any ideas. She is the best party planner (she organized my bachelorette party!) and she has wonderful ideas on fun things to do around our area. She suggested this Dinner Train in Cincinnati. Mr H. made all of the arrangements for Saturday Aug 3 and invited her and her husband to come along with us. I'm so glad that he did, they were great company and if the baby decided to make an early appearance that would've been fine too because Adrienne's husband is my OB. Thankfully the baby decided to stay on the down-low.
When we got on the train, there was a little appetizer waiting for us until everyone showed up and the train started going. The dinner was great, I ordered the salmon, it came with a baked potato and vegetables. Mr H. had the prime rib, with baked potato and vegetables. After the dinner the patrons were encouraged to get up and explore the other cars on the train, which we did!
This was the bar train, the train's side doors were open and you're able to see the view a little bit more.
Adrienne and I just relaxing in the car that had nice lounge chairs. And after eating, then being able to sit in the relaxing chairs it was hard to not fall asleep. I guess that's what really showed me that I'm getting older...I tire more easily...although it's probably because of the baby growing inside of me! The dinner train was so much fun and lasted for about 3 hours, I would recommend it to anyone!
On my birthday, I had a really handsome guy kiss me awake before he had to go to work. KK also kissed me and told me Happy Birthday, after I reminded him that he owed me something because it was my birthday! The whole day was pretty low key. I met with my doula for this birth. We worked on relaxation techniques, things to do to prepare for the birth, and writing a birth plan. It was very nice to do that, I am starting to feel more mentally prepared for this birth. I see her again on Thursday. At Speedway I was asked to take a 15 min survey and was given a $2 bill...it was pretty fast and I had time to take it, so I did. KK also wanted me to stop by JoAnn Fabrics to pick up a few items for him. He wants to make me something special for my birthday. He started painting it tonight before bed, so I will be able to see it tomorrow. My Home and Visiting teachers came by to drop off some yummy cupcakes and chat for a bit. Later on in the day KK had tball practice and we ate at Five Guys. It was such a low key day, which was good because it's been harder for me to do anything lately.
I know this has nothing to do with my birthday but I still wanted to make mention of this. Last weekend Mr H. helped a family from our church. They had someone dent their rental car's bumper and they opted out of the additional insurance and didn't want to put another claim on their insurance so they asked Mr H. if he might be able to help get the dent out. He was able to fix it and the rental company didn't notice it when they returned the car and they showed their appreciation with some chocolate goodies, cash, and this beautiful flower arrangement. The wife made this, this is one of her many talents. And the flowers smell so good! When I walk into our house I can smell them and I LOVE it!

I have AWESOME friends
I really do have the most awesome friends who love and support me. Before classes ended I had 2 particular friends who went above and beyond to show me they cared about not only me...but this new baby! I met both of them through Nursing classes and both are so super fun, smart, and not to mention gorgeous. When they had found out that I was pregnant they wanted to do something extra special.
Emily, her grandmother knits baby afghans and asked her grandmother to knit me one for Nugget. Emily knew that we weren't finding out the gender and I told her that I like the color yellow, so she picked up 2 types of yarn and had me chose which one I wanted. And this is the result:

It is so huge and soft, Nugget is sure going to LOVE it when s/he gets here! It'll keep him/her nice and warm too!
I have talked to a couple people about my plans to cloth diaper Nugget...I know this sounds radical BUT, in the long run it saves money and is better for the environment (people argue that it uses more water and other resources, but whatever!). I've done a lot of researching and reading about it. I am NOT an expert an this will be a trial and error process. I do, however, have one friend, Nandry, who has been cloth diapering her son and she has given me a lot of advice. She even came over to my home and gave me a gift for Nugget, "from one cloth diapering mom to another"
She gave me all of this cool cloth diaper (CD) start up kit. There is CD safe rash ointment, inserts, the diapers themselves, a wet bag, reusable milk pads, and hand-dyed burp cloths (she made herself!) I was so happy and surprised! AND she pre-washed them all for me! I've asked her a lot of questions regarding CD and she comes with a wealth of knowledge!
I am grateful for all of my friends, but I wanted to give a shout out to these two, who have made me feel very special when they gave me gifts for Nugget. These gifts have made me realize that Nugget will be here before I know it and will be able to use these gifts. I hope that I can continually document the awesome things that Nugget receives so that I can always remember!

Nursing Degree
Most of you know my school struggles, graduated with my bachelors in Biology in 2009, was accepted into the local Physician Assistant program, failed one class (by 0.6%), and was asked to leave the program. It was devastating and I felt like a failure for a long time, in fact, I still struggle with "thinking" that I have failed in life. But that's another post...today I want to talk about how those struggles have gotten me to where I am now.
I knew after the PA program that my schooling was not finished...although my student loan amount repayment amount should have told me differently! I knew that I wanted to pursue an occupation in the medical field. So after a little break, I met with school advisors and determined that Nursing would be a great choice for me. There was an accelerated BSN degree through another local college, I applied, was interviewed, and was turned away because I "failed" (there's the blasted word again) an accelerated program before so they didn't think I could handle their program. Even though one person from my PA class who also failed was accepted into their accelerated nursing program. It was heart-wrenching. Old wounds were torn open again and me "thinking" I was a failure were replayed in my mind. But with the support of my husband I knew that I needed to keep trying. So I decided to apply for the regular nursing program, which I was accepted into. The only downfall with this program is that it would take 2 years to complete, whereas the accelerated would take 1 year. But I figured that it would be less stressful to take my time in 2 years as opposed to the 1 year.
The program was tough, there were many tears and late nights studying. But my nursing track was so supportive and awesome, we all became very good friends and that made it worth-while for those 2 years. And despite the tears and frustrations I made it! I graduated on April 27, 2013 with a 3.3 GPA.
My pinning ceremony was the day before, on the 26th and that is what I was most excited about. This ceremony is what I wanted my family to come and watch...this was more important to me than the graduation ceremony.
After standing and sitting for so long on Friday I was in so much terrible pain from my hips and pelvis that I had to take a sedative (hydroxyzine) to sleep because I was in SOO much pain, I was seriously on the verge of asked Mr H. to take me to the ER, but knew that they would just give me pain meds and all I needed was to rest my hips and pelvis. So after a nights rest, I knew that I couldn't bare to go through a graduation ceremony and risk hurting like that again. So I didn't go to graduation...and I'm not upset about it nor do I regret it.
I am grateful for my education and that I have FINALLY finished (for now). I can focus on my family and career without the nagging thought of homework or studying. So what's next for me!? My main focus is this baby. I want to have a healthy pregnancy and birth without the stress of finding a job or going to a job. The money would be nice, but we're surviving right now and can continue to survive until I feel capable of going to work. This baby and my family are much too precious and are at the center of my focus at this time.

Just one of those days
I have been so busy and need to catch up on posting but for now I wanted to explain what happened today.
We were invited over to a friends house for lunch. Mr H. was going to help them fix their seatbealts in their van and in turn they fed us crepe's with chicken, brie, apples, and veggies. It was so yummy! I'm definately going to have to remember that one. After lunch Mr H. fixed the belts, KK played with their 7 children, and us moms talked while making sugar cookie batter. We let the kids use the Christmas cookie cutters and we baked the cookies. We had to roll the dough out again after the dough was cut into Christmas shapes and out of nowhere KK slipped off the chair, knocked his chin on the corner of the wooden bench and fell face first onto the floor. I was RIGHT next to him and I watched it all in slow motion...I couldn't grab him in time.
He was crying so hard, I picked him up and I realized his chin was split open and blood was trickling down his neck. The other mom got a wet wash cloth and an ice pack for KK. The wet wash cloth seemed to help the most. KK had a hard time settling down. He really knocked himself good.
I thought about taking him to get stitches (he may have gotten a couple or they may have just used dermabond), but I figured that it was more trauma for him to have a numbing "shot" and see the suture coming at him than it was for it to just heal on its own.
I did pick up butterfly closures at CVS on the way home and pulled the wound together, to help it heal better. Also during the fall, KK bit his tongue really badly, and it was bleeding pretty good. He's having a hard time talking because his tongue hurts so much...it's actually bruised! I didn't know tongues could bruise...but they can! Do you see that mark that looks like a scratch to the left of KK's boo-boo? He did that by falling with a large book in his arms and the book's corner caught his jaw, he now has a small scar there too.
After the KK started to feel a little better after the fall he got to go outside and play in their tree house. which has it's very own zip line! How cool is that!? KK went zip lining probably around 10 times. He totally forgot about his owie and no longer wanted to go home...he wanted to stay and play. Mr H. even took a turn on the zip line!
Tonight we went to a drive-through lighting display. KK was having a blast pointing to all of the different lights and such. We had an awesome time! And as I was putting KK to bed he asked if I could sleep with him...how could I say no!?
You see the bandaid falling off?
I'm sure there will be more bumps and bruises...I'm just glad that KK bounces back so quickly.

Families are Forever
On the 15th we woke up and got ready for family pictures and of course G was taking his sweet time showering when there were 5 other people who needed to use the same bathroom...annoying! But here are some of the pictures of Mr H.'s side of the family. His family includes older sister (CC), husband (RC), son (R), and daughter (N). He has a younger sister (SB), husband (S), and son (M). And we can't forget Mr H.'s mom, Grandma Ruth!
Once the pictures were taken we needed to get G right to school, but before that he needed to go back to his apartment to change and grab his school stuff. Once at the school, G had missed 3 classes and Mr H. wanted to meet and talk with G's wrestling coach. Unfortunately, he wasn't available, but he got his phone number and called him later on that day, and left a message.
My sister, her husband, Mr H., and I went to Mesa around 4ish. This was a very exciting time. Mr H. and I were going to the temple to be sealed and to become a forever family. Now, let me pause for a second and explain in my own words what a sealing is. When a couple gets married, in a church, justice of peace, or in a backyard, they are married "until death you do part." My interpretation for this is that once a person dies, they are no longer together, they're "parted." This would sadden me if I was not able to be with my family when I die. In the LDS temple there are ordinances that are performed which are sacred...not secret, but sacred. One of those ordinances is a sealing ceremony, where we are married for "all time and eternity." This ordinance helps to ensure that once we die, we will be with our family (if you have more questions about this please ask and I ill do my best to answer them).
After the temple we went to this pizza place called Organ Stop. It has wonderful pizza, but people don't go there for the pizza...it's the entertainment. One person plays the organ and is responsible for all of the other instruments associated with the song he is playing, such as "who let the dog's out." This place has been openedfor 40 years and they were having a sale of 1 appetizer, 2 pizzas, and 2 pitchers of drinks for $40. We all had a great time and ate really yummy food and listened to great music.
We stayed until close and it was worth it. Afterwards, we met up with Mr H.'s friends who is a Southwest airlines pilot. He was all over the continental USA that day and had just gotten off of work. It was great meeting him and talking, but I was getting very tired. KK had already fallen asleep in my arms. We didn't get home until almost midnight...which was 3am Ohio time. It was a long but great day!

My lovely sister, RR, and her hubby.
KK loved the music and loved watching the guy play the organ.
